My team has been significantly underpowered whilst waiting for training points for each loyalty level. So much so that I have gone back to my saber cat pets. I have also noticed that I have to feed my new boar pets much more frequently than my old cats. It's gone well and the bird is almost 70. He is at loyalty lvl 6. It did take a while even at a lvl 67 bird to gain 6 loytalty lvls.
